Direct Personal Involvement
Our Executive Director, Dr Soraya Dato' Seri Azmi takes the lead by dedicating a significant amount of her professional time to actively support the NGOs through various roles. Her current commitments are to:
Malaysian AIDS Council (MAC)
Her involvement in HIV/AIDS started through her professional consulting for the United Nations Development Programme but this work has since convinced her to get involved in a voluntary capacity as well. At the Malaysian AIDS Council, Dr Soraya is now a current Executive Committee member. Through this, she is closely involved in addressing HIV/AIDS issues particularly among women in Malaysia.
Pertubuhan Tindakan Wanita Islam (PERTIWI)
At PERTIWI, Dr Soraya is a Committee Member. On behalf of PERTIWI, she has just initiated a community service pilot project in Padang Besar, Perlis. The “Suluh Bacaan” project aims to encourage the habit of reading among young children. The project is a joint venture of PERTIWI, the Perlis Public Library and University Malaysia Perlis, and involved local volunteers to conduct storytelling sessions to children at village libraries.
National Council of Women’s Organizations (NCWO)
At NCWO, Dr Soraya is a member of the Health Bureau. She supports the HIV/AIDS related work for the organization and represents NCWO on the MAC executive committee.
KL Crash Pad, Rumah Nur Salam
Our consultant, Nabilla Sharil is currently involved in a community work at the KL Crash Pad, under the Rumah Nur Salam in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman. At the same time she is conducting a brief research on high-risk youths in Kuala Lumpur and their knowledge, attitudes and practices towards their sexual and reproductive health. She conducts classes on adolescent sexual and reproductive health to encourage youths to make healthy choices and decisions.
